• Adoptionists — Members, adherents, or promoters of the doctrine of adoptionism, who denied the inherent and eternal divinity of Jesus Christ, arguing that his status as Son of God was achieved through divine adoption at his baptism. The term is used strictly in ecclesiastical historiography to denote religious factions of antiquity and the early Middle Ages in conflict with trinitarian orthodoxy.
• Agapit — A masculine given name and surname of Greek origin, used historically in the Christian-Orthodox and hagiographic spaces; it originates from the name 'Agapetos', which structurally translates to 'the beloved', 'esteemed', or 'worthy of love'. In universal ecclesiastical history, this name was borne by two popes of Rome and numerous early Christian saints and theologians, forming an onomastic pillar based on the virtue of spiritual love.
• Agathonic — 1. Adjective relating to Saint Agathonicus or the writings and events associated with his name. 2. • Amphilochius — A traditional masculine given name of Greek origin (Amphilochios), adapted in Christian Orthodox onomastics as a saint's name (Saint Amphilochius of Iconium) and historically borne by prominent hierarchs, such as the scholar Amfilohie Hotiniul. • Anabaptist — A person who belongs to Anabaptism or adopts the doctrines of this radical 16th-century religious movement. In a figurative sense, it retains the meaning of a vehement public condemnation, absolute rejection, or a curse cast upon an act considered unacceptable.
• Angelolatry — The cult, veneration, or excessive and exaggerated worship of angels, sometimes manifested in certain mystical currents or religious communities. • Angelology — A branch of dogmatic theology, history of religions, or mystical philosophy that deals with the systematic study of angels, their nature, origins, functions, and hierarchies.
